I’ve used this ‘hand’ stitched form a few times, particularly in the To Live And Die In Brewster County collection. I certainly didn’t come up with the technique, it has been around as long as there has been photography I’m sure.

What appeals to me is this technique’s ability to communicate scale totally independently of the photo’s content. That a subject would need so many frames to even be captured speaks to its size. It also can create interesting perspectives, almost like a fish-eye perspective distortion as seen here.
